Whether you’re making burgers or my favorite oven fries, this easy Fry Sauce recipe is the perfect condiment to serve alongside it.

It takes less than 5 minutes to make and will make ketchup look bland in comparison.

Made with just a handful of pantry staple ingredients, it’s our go-to dipping sauce on fry night.

What is Fry Sauce?

In it’s most basic form, fry sauce is a combination of ketchup and mayonnaise. My sauce starts with that combo and then adds just a few more ingredients that really makes it the best fry sauce for dipping.

The color and flavor will remind you of Thousand Island dressing – and for good reason. A lot of similar ingredients and flavors without the texture. This recipe calls for pickle juice instead of chopped pickles or relish.

When Should I Use Fry Sauce?

Fry sauce is the ultimate condiment: extremely versatile and goes with just about anything. Sure, it’s the perfect French fry dipping sauce but here are some more of our favorite ways to enjoy it:

  • onion rings
  • baked French fries or sweet potato fries
  • air fryer pickles
  • burgers or turkey burgers
  • oven roasted potatoes

Fry Sauce Recipe Ingredients

There’s only 7 ingredients in this easy recipe and I’m sure you have most if not all of these ingredients on hand. As always, you can find the full printable recipe with measurements at the end of this post. Let’s take a look at what you’ll need:

  • mayonnaise – one of the two key main ingredients, the mayonnaise gives this French fry sauce a seriously creamy texture.
  • ketchup – the ketchup adds SO much flavor to this simple recipe: sweetness, flavor, the bite from the vinegar and don’t forget color!
  • pickle juice – a little brininess that is the perfect complement to this sauce. Dill or sweet – it’s up to you.
  • Worcestershire sauce – I love the punch of flavor you get with just a few drops of Worcestershire.
  • paprikaor smoked paprika – I always use smoked but regular paprika works fine.
  • salt and black pepper – for seasoning.

French Fry Dipping Sauce FAQs

Can I double the recipe?

Yes! This is such an easy recipe to double, triple, whatever you want. If you’re planning on a larger group – or a lot of fries – go ahead and double the recipe.

Can I make this in advance?

Sure can! Whenever we’re having a BBQ or friends over and the grill is going to be hopping, I make this fry sauce up a few days beforehand so it’s ready to go. This sauce is good for up to 4 days in the fridge.

Do I have to use mayonnaise?

The mayonnaise is the base of this recipe, so yes. You can use a light mayo if you prefer or whatever mayonnaise substitute you like to use but the flavor will change slightly.

Variations To Try

I recommend making the recipe as written at least once before trying these variations, then you’ll know what you might want to change. Here are some delicious, easy variations you can try:

  • Make it spicy. Add your favorite hot sauce to the mix for a little heat. Or stir in some chipotle adobo sauce for some added smokiness.
  • Try the Trifecta. You’ve got the mayonnaise and ketchup already, add the mustard or our favorite, dijon mustard, to make this an all-in-one dipping sauce or burger spread.
  • Sweeten. Lots of recipes call for sugar so if you like a sweeter sauce add up to 1 teaspoon of sugar, honey or brown sugar. Keep in mind the ketchup already has sugar which is why I don’t add sugar to my recipe to begin with.
