You receive a rebate when you pay too much for something, for example, when you pay too much taxes.
You receive a refund when you pay for something and do not need the item or the item you paid for is damaged. For example, I paid for a shirt and it was the wrong color so the market gave me a refund.

You receive a rebate when you pay too much for something, for example, when you pay too much taxes.
You receive a refund when you pay for something and do not need the item or the item you paid for is damaged. For example, I paid for a shirt and it was the wrong color so the market gave me a refund.
