Everyone hates Liv Cohen. What do you do when you can't trust anyone? What do you do when there's a witch? Author note 12/13/2023 The day this book was supposed to be put into print, I was beaten up and put through a witch trial by the police, and that resulted in me almost dying from an internal injury. The idea of religious persecution, the idea of persecuting artists and people who you want to exploit for personal gain is still alive and well. Books like this protect young women by showing them the dangers of the world and I stand by the fact that this will protect men and women from the selfish gains of communities by showing these communities for the exploitative forces they can be. Religious radicalism has purveyed our governing body and police force for too long, and the idea of witchcraft should be discussed in the ways where it is understood and not taken advantage of or demonized. You are not alone, you are not evil, and you deserve to practice your religion in the light of day, no matter what that religion may be.

3/5: Being a fan of Hatchet, I really wanted to love this book. In truth I had difficulty connecting with the main characters, Chris and Frank. I thought the flow of the story was choppy at times which disrupted my ability to fully visualize the story. On a positive note, the raven, named Thursday, added a mythical and mysterious feel to the story which I enjoyed. The connection between Chris and Thursday was sweet as well. Late elementary to middle school aged, adventure story lovers, will likely enjoy this book. It is not heavy on the survival side of being stranded in the wilderness but there...
